We moved to Turre several days before Christmas 06. This being after saving up for over 3 years both of us working like silly buggers to save enough for the move. We took our 2 cats, who both had to have full course of injections before we left.
We moved into an apartment along Calle Acacias; it was a quite moderately sized. One thing that did strike us was how very cold it was....infact it was freezing. We got a thermometre to see how cold it really was. it showed just 3 degree's F. No matter what we did, we could not hardly keep it warm at all, even with the cooker going full pelt. We had to go to Mojacar to buy a few halogen heaters...after a few hours it rose to a maximum of 7 degs F.
Outside temperature was warmenough to walk about in summer clothing most days; but there was no breeze whatsoever. so, we could not even open the doors and windows to let the heat in.
It was so cold, you could even see the cats exhaling, which we have never seen before.
Drying laundry was difficult to say the least. It took day, yes days...not hours to dry! there was no Sun getting into the apartment due to the building being built in the wrong position, which made the air quite cool out of the sun and still air...hence damp clothes for at least 2 days; which is ridiculous concidering this is supposed to be one of the warmest places in Spain!
Power cuts happen in Turre on a regular basis and without warning too.
They can last for a very long time. This caused me untold hours of ruined work on my computer too. Yes, you guessed it, the fridges are electric, so are a lot of the cookers as our was too; meaning a potentially ruined meal.
The double bedroom was very cramped, more like a single bedroom in England; the single one was about as big as a small boxroom.
If you intend to watch the TV, make sure you have satellite or a DVD/video player as Spanish TV is in a word..GARBAGE!!!
Turre is on the first impression appears a nice town....That is until you've been there a while! then and only then, (if you've made the mistake of selling up and moving there...) will you start to see Turre for what it really is.
2-3 English people who we talked to told us that it was a gypsy town. Well you can imagine how we felt when we heard what they said. ( Two of them came back to England after taking almost 3 years to sell their property). lovely we thought!
Comparing it to Benidorm, would be like comparing a campsite to Buckingham Palace. Food shops like Super Turre, well it is like basic of the basics. You have to literally live like the locals to try and forget what you were used to in England. Your not taking a step forward in life...more like a dozen backwards!
The only really decent thing about Turre I can speak well of....is the scenery behind the apartment blocks. a mountain chain that extends for many miles along the coast, and almost 1000 feet high in places.
We bought a Chinese meal one night for a change...Ha! That was a bad decision. It was the worst Chinese takeaway I've had in my life.
Taxi's to Mojacar are about a fiver or so, bus travel...forget it! It would be quicker to walk the 7-8 miles. In all the time we were there, I saw about four, and we were there for almost 3 months.
If you want to go live in Spain, my sugguestion would be to have a look at places on the Costa Blanca, where the 21st century is....not in 19th century Turre.
- Pros:Close to plenty of beaches...if you have your own transport
- Cons:Power cuts; lack of public transport, lack of decent food shops...very basic
- In a nutshell:Forget buying here, go to Costa Blanca and further instead!

We quite like it there, we have an apartment there but only for holidays, not sure about living there fulltime though.
