When most people think of Santa Cruz they think of beaches, sun-tanning, the ocean. I think of all those things sure.... but the first thing that pops into my head is wine. I know that seems sacrilage to speak of wine in this area outside of Napa or Sonoma but believe me, as far as I'm concerned, neither of those places has anything on Santa Cruz Mountain Wines when it comes to a wine tasting trip. The wineries are often staffed by the winemakers themselves or people intricately involved in the process, not tasting room only staff that are told what to say. SC Mountain wines are often big, earthy, thick experiences for the palate (and that's the Pinot!!!).
But to come here for just their wine is as much a shame as coming here without trying it. Santa Cruz has much to offer whether or not you love wine, surfing, seafood or secluded beaches. The beach boardwalk is a throwback to another era and the downtown is famous for its relaxed and laisez-fair attitude. |
