HOPFERL/BIERHOF: Heavy Austrian Food in the centre

Restaurant Name: HOPFERL/BIERHOF
HOPFERL I had a daily menu dish made from traditional austrian noodles with onions and eggs served with a salad. The portions are large and the food is taisty but unfortunately very greasy. The interior is one of a typical pub and it has two rooms. Be careful not to go into the smaller room like me because you will be located right next to the kitchen and I have to tell you my clothes are quite stinky now! The service was all right, like in any restaurant in Vienna. BIERHOF I had a potato/cheese bake. Was also very heavy. Its situated just behinf Hopferl and is in a walk through yard. Warning: there are construction works on the nearby house so its quite noisy, dusty and not very romantic!

Restaurant Name: typical Austrian specialities
in Schweitzerhaus you will find a typical so called Schweinschpitze roll (pork) baked in a crust with oven baked potatoes and fresh cabage salad. As a little side dish you will get cut turnip and some very nice salty rolls. What usually comes as well is a portion of very tasty mustard as well as some hot horseraddish. Enjoy! NOTE: Due to the popularity of the place I can recommend a reservation. However, even without one waiting time is around 15-20 min!

expedit: Very nice Italian place in Vienna center

Restaurant Name: expedit
This place looks a bit like a magazine/warehouse but thats no wonder since it is 3 in one: its a restaurant, it is a wholesaller of italian goods like cheese, prosciutto and similar and it is a place where you can play boccia! Boccia is a competitive sport, similar to bowls (but closer to bocce as the balls are not biased), but designed to be played by people with disabilities - specifically, cerebral palsy and other locomotor disabilities (those which affect motor skills). It is an official Paralympic sport, and is played in over forty countries worldwide. Food: typical italian pasta and salad and all their food looks excellent!

Restaurant Name: SALZBERG
Beautiful interior with red brick, fantasticly done lightning, enough room for everyone, friendly staff and great food. And thats not all, they provide all guests with free wireless access to internet! Part of their place looks like a living room with wonderful comfortable sofas and clean modern toilets. And food, you just name it; from austrian to italian to international... They have a variety of beers and more importantly they have Trummer PILS!!! In the summer they also have a very nice terrace. TIP: Apply on their mailing list and get weekly menus! Also, take advantage of their wonderful brunches on sundays from 10-16 !

Grinzing & Heurigen: Styrian traditional food in Vienna

Restaurant Name: Grinzing & Heurigen
Cosy restaurant in the area of Poetzleinsdorf, at the end of the Poetzleinsdorfer park. It features typical Styrian food in a very cosy wood interior. There is also an outside sitting garden. I tried "holundersekt" or white elder extract with prosecco and I had styrian cornweed salad with roast bacon, eggs and pumpkin oil and some "Baerlauchtascherl" or cheese filled ravioli with fried breadcrums. Lovely!

daol Thu Jun 5, 2008 12:54 UTC Those soups aren't worth their price! There are better places for soups in Vienna: Try "Zum Suppentopf" its on the same street! | mutchmac Wed Mar 5, 2008 04:48 UTC I noticed around the Nestroplatz that you have to be careful where you walk. The Stad Park did have a doggie bag dispenser. I like Vienna - not every city is perfect but it great - hope to do more sand sculpture there this summer Craig from vancouver | Museeuw Mon Oct 29, 2007 09:16 UTC Hello, just stumbled on your pages.
