"THE CONTINENTAL HOLY MOUNTINE" Fruska Gora Nacionalni Park by Prasnjavi

Fruska Gora Nacionalni Park Travel Guide: 64 reviews and 158 photos

The Fruska Gora Monasteries are the unique group of thickly situated monasteries built in the period from 15th to 18th century. Thirty five monasteries were built in a marvelous natural setting. Fifteen have been preserved till today. This historical and sacral complex has been enlisted for UNESCO program of protection. There are specific museums with archive material and treasuries and they certainly should be visited. All monasteries represent a master-piece of architecture, painting and entire cultural creativity of Serbian people in this region.
Some of them were destroyed during German occupation in World War Two and monasteries Sisatovac, Novo Hopovo, Vrdnik-Ravanica, Beocin, Privina glava and Jazak still suffer consequences of detonations, explosions and side effects caused by NATO warplanes.

I have visited some of them and I'll try to present them to you.

I knew that area only as a famous wine growing region. Nice to see that there's even more to see here! Nice page Alek!

Very beautiful monastery pictures, Alek. I need to come back. The inside of St. Mary's chapel at the Monastery Djipsa looks remarkably similar to the inside of our St. John church in SF.
