"Belgrade on the Sea"

If I have to make a list of my favourite cities, Thessaliniki will take 3rd place, after Trebinje and, of course, Belgrade. I hope that no one will be angry with me if I call Thessaloniki - "Belgrade on the Sea". You have to go there and stay longer (both Belgrade and Thessaloniki) and you will find out what I meant. It lives 24 hours per day and everyone has smile on the face. Bars are fool all day long, as well as restaurants.

Capital

Thessaloniki, is the capital of Macedonia region and comprises of a population above one million inhabitants. Its' position is considered of economic and strategic importance, not only in the Balkan area, but in the East Mediterranean as well.

History

It was built by Kassandros, a general of Alexander the Great and heir to his throne during the period of 316-317 B.C. Over the years, Thessaloniki suffered invasions by Slavs, Arabs, Saracens, Normans, Catalans and Turks, but each time, the city remained unbowed, its' ancient and Byzantine monuments intact.
