The capital of the Marina Baixa Villajoyosa is called the capital of the Marina Baixa (low seacoast). It is also one of the most important chocolate producers of Spain. In 1911 King Alfonso XII conceded Villajoyosa the title of city. This was wen he was visiting for the inaguration of the railway between Alicante and Denia.
