My, my, I grew up here for 18 years!

Having been born in Oakland, California and lived in the Bay area until I was 7, then living on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (I'm a tribal member of the Oglala Sioux, the same tribe as Crazy Horse) until I was 10, moving to eastern Kentucky was probably the biggest culture shock of my life (heh - and they eat rattlesnake & DOG on the reservation!). ;)

I lived in this area for 18 years excepting a 6-month stint in Lexington, KY and 3 years attending MSU in Morehead, KY (hush now, I've heard more puns on that town's name than I care to tell).

Just thought I'd share some photos of myself during my (ahem) formative years.

Eighth Grade Prom

This is winsome me at age 13 in my prom dress. Yes, in eastern Kentucky they have proms for the eighth grade. Something my kids have never fathomed growing up here in Ohio!

Besides scoring a junior from high school for my prom date, I was also a cheerleader that year.

I've cut out my prom date, mostly because in the photo he was ghastly pale!

I'm just kidding! I cut him out of the photo to protect his privacy - he & his family are some of my most favorite people on the planet!

Pros and Cons

Pros:Most of the town has been bulldozed over!
Cons:Which also means some of my places are gone, too!

Nice that you share a bit of your upbringing! I loved Deadwood, SD last year - it's probably almost the same as when you were there but with more tourists. Still, interesting picture of the Amer. West.

Thems is some snazzy prom duds! Note the distinct lack of prom pictures on my Stanford page. I'm not nearly as brave as you are!

Great page! I use to to to school in Martin..elementary. I thought it was a great place to grow up. I loved the river.
