Museo del Mar
Boca del Rio is a small fishing village in south of peninsula Macanao.
Museo del Mar is a small, but a nice museum where you can see the life of the ocean (coral, skeletons of various fishes).

This picture is taken when taken off from the airport on the island.
It is the Laguna de la Restinga.
This small town is situated at the wonderful bay of Juangriego (Bahía Juangriego). It is full with fishing boats. The sunset is here magnificent and the best place to see it is from the Fortín de la Galera, a small fort on the hill in the bay.
It was here where THE Libertador Simón Bolívar set his first steps on the mainland with his troops, when he left his exile on Haiti to start his freedom fight against the Spaniards. However the town is called after the freedom fighter Juan Griego.
This is a small and quiet beach, abt. 4 km north from Juangriego. It has 2 restaurants.
As it is small, it gives you the feeling if you are on a private beach with everything you need. I can really recommend.
La Isla de Coche
Isn't it luxurious? Sitting in swimming pool and looking out to the beach, where you see on the shore your boat (schooner) (if it is just for one day).
This small island is abt 10 km south of Margarita. This is a day trip on a small, luxurious boat (schooner for abt. 10 people). You are extremely well taken care of by very friendly personnel (the captain and his girlfriend plus the hostess) and they do everything to make your trip by boat and the several hours stay on the island unforgettable.
Laguna de la Restinga
It is a wonderful nature excursion to a lagoon and the beach (which is full of shells) of the National Park La Restinga. This lagoon connects the peninsula Macanao with Margarita in the north.
You can hire a boat (quite noisy) to explore the labyrinth of mangrove canals, which have various names, such as Jardin de Amores (Garden of Love) or Canal Mi Dulce Amor (Canal of my Sweet Love) and to see fantastic tropical flora and fauna.
Playa El Aqua
Playa El Aqua, north-east of the island, is one of the most known beaches. Palm trees and white sand, calm, crystal clear blue sea, so you can once in a while take a swim to cool down.
On this beach you have many restaurants. As this is a large and popular beach, there are many beach vendors coming along to sell you all kinds of articles, starting from fresh coconut, fruit, sun glasses, swimming wear, all kind of clothing, souvenirs – you name it, they sell it. It sounds quite disturbing but it isn't, just do not pay attention they pass by.
When we arrived, at abt 10.00 o'clock, the beach was practically empty, as you can see on the picture, however within one/two hour(s) the beach was pleasantly crowded.
