Ubud has become a very touristic town lateley, many tourists are going to Ubud for shopping, mainly because it is a lot cheaper here than other placec, you can find everything here from different parts of Bali.
Lots of taxidrivers chase you for a ride and streetvendors offers you their service, remember that they always start with a very high price and you can expect to pay a third of what they asked for.
The surroundings of Ubud is a absolute must, it is very beautiful and some of the most beautiful hotels are located here, you can reach everything with a cab - it is impossible to reach eveything by foot.
This town is also filled with arts,handicrafts etc... for a resonable price.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Nice surroundings, nice cheap shopping
Cons:To many tourists, touts, taxidrivers
In a nutshell:A must - for shopping and the restaurants,views

We loved our stay in Ubud, but I think it was not that busy those days.
