Former Archbishop's Palace - Lviv

Former Archbishop's Palace

Archbishop's Palace Rynoq sq. no.9

That palace was built in 1634 in the exactly the same place where was the dwelling-palace of Prince Swidrygailo (brother of the King of Poland Wladyslaw Jagiello).Swidrgailo's Palace was built in 1405. The first Archbishop of Lwow (till 1405 the archbishopric of Lwow was in Halicz) Jan Rzeszowski live in that Palace.
In 1673 the King of Poland Michal Korybut Wisniowiecki died in that palace.

When the kings of Poland visited Lwow thay didn't want to stay in castle beacuse of humidity and smell of the river Peltvia, so they usually stayed in apartments on Rynoq sq. 9.

One of the Palace owners was a famous Baczewski - Lviv

One of the Palace owners was a famous Baczewski

Mazancz Palace no. 31(Including Baczewski's story)

The Palace of Mazancz's ancestry was built in 16th century. In 1923 famous Polish sculptor Zygmunt Kurczynski decorated Manzacz's ancestry Palace. That beautiful palace was also famous because of the one of the owners - J.A.Baczewski .

Holly Mary! Baczewski's liqueurs, tinctures and vodkas was the most splendid drinks in Poland and in the whole Europe in 1920's and 1930's. It's just like Trzesniewski's sandwiches in Vienna ( the more you eat the more you want.*****www.trzesniewski.at), there was Baczewski's vodka from Lwow.

Why Baczewski's drinks were famous?

In 1830 Aeneas Coffey discovered that by using a continuous column still most impurities could be removed and 94-96% pure ethanol could be produced. To eliminate the remaining impurities this distilled alcohol could be diluted, filtered through charcoal, and then rectified, or redistilled. This type of neutral spirit became the standard.

Aeneas Coffey built the special instrumentation to conduct the whole process.Baczewski had the same instumentations just two years later, in 1832 :))))

After such improvements of Baczewski's company the most splendid absints, vodkas and curaco drinks were delivered to the most famous and fashionable restaurants in Poland (Ziemianska, Szkocka, Adria, Grand) and other European cities.

Jozef Adam Baczewski (1829-1910)modernized the whole company, that was founded in 1782. He was a genius of public relations and marketing matters.Drinks were not bottled but sold in special distinguishable
carafes.

On the Great National Industry Exposition in 1894, Baczewski designed and arranged the whole pavilon as the one tremendous
carafe.

In the recent Lviv there were a very few remains of Baczewski's commercials and inscriptions on the buildings. In the past year they were completely removed and destroyed.

Black Stone Sun - Lviv

Black Stone Sun

The Black Stone House - Rynok no.4

The most beautiful House in Old Town of Lwow (Lviv) built in 1519. Palace was destroyed by fire in 1527. In 1588-1589 Black House was rebuilt for an Italian merchant Tomas de Alberti (from the Island of Chios). Black Stone House was also the Anczowski's ancestry house. Such marvelous conditions of that building owes to the patronate of Saints: Martin, Lukas, Stanislaw Kostka, John from Dukla and Virgin Mary. The diamond rustication (reconstruction in 1675-79) in the black stone of the facade gave this unique palace its name. One of the owners of that glamorous Palace was the Polish King John III Sobieski. There is a History Museum of Lwow (Lviv).

Other owners:
Lorencowicz (owner of the one of the first pharmacy in Lwow);
Huczewski (The Delegate of Lwow for the Polish King Jan Kazimierz nuptial ceremony),
City of Lwow from 1911.

Another angle another shapes - Lviv

Bandinelli House no.2

Bandinelli House was built in 16th century, the owner was a grandson of famous sculptor from Florence, Baccio Bandinelli from the Florentine school (b. 1488, Firenze, d. 1560, Firenze).

All of you know for sure the famous Laoocon sculpture? It's an antique marble group(now in the Vatican Museums) representing the Trojan priest Laoöcon and his two sons being crushed to death by snakes as penalty for warning the Trojans against the wooden horse of the Greeks, and incident related by Virgil in the "Aeneid", dated to the 2nd or 1st century BC or the 1st century AD, although whether it is an original Hellenistic piece or a Roman copy has long been a matter of terrible dispute.Did you knew that Baccio Bandinelli was commissioned for making a copy of the Laoöcon by Pope Leo X?. In his copy Bandinelli made several modifications and additions to the original

(BTW Do you remember Monthy Python's Last Supper with kangaroo? :).

*** Another interesting IMHO information- In 1662 (during domination of the Polish King Jan Kazimierz)Angelo Maria Bandinelli was The General Mail-Master. That's why the letters came to the recipients with late in all that time...(you know...siesta :).Jan Kazimierz didn't like him because he was always late with good news (as far as you know the history of Poland you must admit that there was permament deficit of good news).
