There's so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our lungs there'd be no place to put it all.

Nanjing: China's Ancient Capital

by coolpanda87 - last update: Jan 19, 2004

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum
In the Ming dynasty, Nanjing was the capital of the middle kingdom. Unfortunately, it lost its status when the foreign Manchus moved the capital to Beijing in the Qin Dynasty.

It has in its collection some of the most beautiful buildings left over from the ancient middle kingdom, including gardens, temples and market squares.

The city still suffers from memories of the horrifying events that happened during WW2, including the well known Nanjing Massacre, where over 300 000 chinese were murdered by the invading Japanese militants.

It is a sad page in history, and its scar on this city will likely never go away. Hopefully this could serve as a reminder that war is bad, no matter what the circumstance.
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum

Mausoleum for the "Father of Modern China"

This city is also the memorial place of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, for he is known for uniting China, & turning it into a Republic after defeating the disfunct monarchy. He was a devoted Christian who believed that China would someday in the future become a strong & united country again.

If you look carefully at the bronze pot, you will see dents that have almost pierced through the pot. That was caused by air raids that ravaged the area in WW2.

Good selection of sites in Nanjing. All kinds of activities go on around the Confucian Temple.
