Tigers
Excellent night out here I do like this and used to go and watch the Tigers as a child. It is speedway on strange looking motor bikes that do not have brakes.....what can I say....action action action
Price is about 8-9 pounds and children go free.....meetings are usually held on a thursday night at around 730pm and last untill around 10 pm. There is always a good crowd of good natured people at these events and is a true family atmosphere.
Equipment: Beleive it or not it is at the same place as the dog track...see Dog Racing or Casino for directions. You need warm clothing in the cold months. One thing to watch out for is if you stand close to the track the motor bikes can kick up a lot of grit that will hit you at head height....you have been warned.
One friend of mine who hadn`t been before decided to take photos of the riders as they was racing...not a good idea when they are racing into a corner and see your flash light.

The perfect shirt
Sheffield United Football Club....the blades...situated at Brammall Lane....the better of the citys two teams...currently we are at the top spot of division one fighting for promotion to the premiership....we just missed out last year on promotion. Its a great atmosphere down at the lane and should not be missed, especially if you are foreign.
I am especially proud of the shirt in the photo as it was a gift from one of my dearest friends. :O) thank you ;O)
Equipment: Warm weather gear in autumn and winter, can get quite cold and drafty...a gallon of beer is also usefull ;O)
Directions: Brammell Lane just 5 mins walk from the city center.

view from a mobile phone camera
Sheffield Steelers is an ice hockey team for this city. It is well worth a visit no matter what age you are....the game is very tough but does have a good family atmosphere to it. Tickets are reasonably priced too at around £10 pounds.
Apologies about the photo...it was taken from a mobile phone....better than my effort of none ; )
Equipment: No equipment needed other than to sneak a couple of drinks into the arena....drink prices are quite high there like most other sproting venues.
Address: Sheffield Hallam Arena
Directions: Head out of the city towards Meadowhall....approx 5/10 mins drive from city center..or 52 bus route

Dry ski slopes
Sheffield is one of the few citys in England that hosts a dry ski slope. It stands out in many parts of Sheffield as my city is quite hilly, you can see the big white slopes with black dots hurtling down them. There are several ski slopes, chair lifts and it caters for most kinds of skiing. There are begginer classes and is quite popular for children. There is a shop and a bar on site.
Dont let the area put you off as you are going there....it is a true dump but once at the ski village it is quite nice.
Equipment: This is taken from an information leaflet I picked up, not my words.
What to wear:
Slope users must keep arms, legs and hands covered. Loose trousers/tracksuit bottoms, sweatshirt and gloves are ideal. Remember to dress for the weather. We also advise long sports socks.
So there you have it folks.
When going there take your time, I found the signs not very good and I live here. Once you go under a very tight but high railway bridge you know you are on the right road.
Directions: Go from city center and head towards Pennistone road, look for the signs for Ski Village take a right and then 3rd left follow the hill up towards ski village....you cant go any further....I will put a map up on my travelogue page to try and help.

The Owls
Goes through me having to put this on here but I am a fair guy.
Sheffield Wednesday is one of the oldest teams in England. They have had bit of a bad season in 2002/3 and been relegated ; )
I am sure they will bounce back and Sheffield will have two mighty teams again.
One thing in Wednesdays favour is that the ground is quite nice and they do have quite a few loyal fans that have been with them in the worst of times.
Wednesdays nickname is the owls....you can see the picture of an owl in my photo.
Is it by chance that there is lots of rubbish in my photo?.....oh come on folks I mean the bins of course ; )
Equipment: Warm clothes for winter matches....football grounds tend to be drafty.
A sense of humour when watching the game.
Forget the car on match days...use the tram or bus.
Directions: Just past dog track casino etc etc but this time on the left hand side leaving the city center. 10 mins from city center.

Dog Racing
Dog racing is quite a popular past time here and although I havent had the chance to go yet quite a few of my freinds go on a regular basis. Its a good night out where you can take your wives...not sure about kids....get a drink of beer, basic food and have a gamble as high or as low as you want.
The events usually take place at night time.
Equipment: Warm clothes if in winter, but there is an inside area near the bar.
Loads of money ; )
Address: Right next door to Napoleons casino.see other tips
Directions: see directions for Napoleons casino
