Duinrell Campsite-Wassenaar, Netherlands

Holidays in Holland

Duinrell Campsite
We decide to go to Duinrell campsite in Wassenaar, Netherlands this year. it looked good on the website and we weren't disappointed. We booked direct with the campsite and went for a type 'A' Duingalow.
As Lorraine didn't wish to travel too far by car to get there booked to sail DFDS from Newcastle to Ijmuiden That way total car travel was down to 100 miles each way-60 to Newcastle and 40 Ijmuiden - Wassenaar. The overnight ferry was comfortable and quite fun( the Friday night stag and hen nighters to Amsterdam kept things lively)
No trouble finding Duinrell as it's clearly signed off the N44( cleverly they actually direct you there missing out the centre of Wassenaar and any potential traffic hold ups).
The campsite were very easy to deal with via the net and booking was no problem. Instructions were clear and concise and arrival was without a hitch. The advantage to booking your own is that we got the Duingalow and ferry for the same price as camping 'firms' charge for a caravan and Dover to Calais crossing, without the trek across Belgium.
*Tip*- take your own hotos for the id cards required on site, rather than pay for passport pics there. If you have a digi cam- no probs. Make sure you take these passe whenever you leave camp and when you use the Tikibad Pools Complex.
There are a selection of bars in Kikkertuin, near the centre of the site and also two resteraunts and a fast food outlet and Supermarket. The prices are as you'd expect on a contained site, without being too extortionate, there are also many snack outlets in the theme park area of the site and a cafe in Tikibad.
Our Base

The Duingalow

We hired an 'A' type Duingalow. One double and 2 single beds, shower toilet, kitchen(fridge, hob, microwave(extra)adequate cutlery and utensils), lounge with 2 couches, TV coffee table, dining table and fire (if req'd), outdoor furniture on patio. Cleaning equipment IS provide and it's only polite to clean the duingalow before you finally leave
The only gripe was the beds were uncomfortable. you had to be drunk to sleep on it (Wayyyheeeyyy -no probs there), but on waking at 5.00am getting back to sleep was a B****r. Daniel, the youngest, slept on one of the couches as he was small enough to get away with it. HOW WE ENVIED HIM.
The duingalow was clean and after a week you got new bedding. Each duingalow has it's own marked parking space( we were in duingalow park 2, there are 6) which people stick to( ours was across the road from the duingalow itself. all in all it was a good base for our holiday and we had the added advantage of being relatively near the Supermarket on site, the theme park and Tikibad.
Wee hee Dad !

Playparks Holland- scare the kids

Kiddy play parks in Holland- now thats something else. They appear to go on th principle of scare the kids witless, they'll love it. I've never seen so many spinny roundabouty rides, each with precision high speed bearings in my life, on a kids park. We played 'Wimpout 'where I would spin the things and the boys would hang on and see who wimped out first. Slides are TALL with perpex safety cages at the top and swings go HIGH. all in all it doesn't seem to the kids any harm. Dutch kids seem especially brave( I wonder why?). It's not just on the park here either, it was ALL the Dutch playparks we tried.

Pros:"Excellent site with lots to do"
Cons:"Weather can be iffy(well... it is on the North Sea coast)"
In A Nutshell:"Worth it for Tikibad alone"
