"Södertälje" Södertälje by Ilya_Andriy

Södertälje is a 78,000 inhabitants town near Stockholm (35 minutes away via commuter-trains) between Lake Mälaren and the Baltic sea and with the Södertälje Channel connecting the lake and the sea, where you will find a wide range of residential accommodation. It is an immigrant city in which more of 40% of the inhabitants have a foreign background. The main reason of becoming the immigrant city which it is was that the industries were crying out for labour.
The port of Södertälje is also very important. Among many other imported products almost all cars to Sweden comes via this port.

Södertälje is a town full of variety with a genuine old town centre surrounded by the beautiful rolling landscape of Sodermanland county.

Södertälje is famous because two of Sweden's most successful companies (AstraZeneca and Scania) are located here, appart from other things as the fact that one of the world's most famous tennis stars ever (Björn Borg) hails from here.

The Södertälje Tourist Office is situated in the centre of Södertälje. They will give you qualified information on virtually everything in Södertälje.

But what really made me arrive to this place was nothing of this. The main reason was the 2003 Eurobasket Championship, in which Russia played against Spain, SCG and Sweden here

What to do here? Visit Birka, known as Sweden's first town, do some shopping in the centre of Södertälje or at the Festival Park, go to Sydpoolen or learn about natural science and technology by experimenting at Tom ***. If you prefer to see the countryside, Södertälje is the right place to start. There are lots of well-maintained mansions in the neighbourhood. In this area is famous Tullgarn, south of Södertälje with a wonderful restaurant and Taxinge Mansion with its coffee shop.
