South Africa

Close encounters at Kruger Park
Finally, we had the opportunity to visit this great country by landing in Cape Town, driving around with a rental car and leaving from Johannesburg in little less than four weeks.
Primary scope of our trip was to experience the sight of wildlife, but we also found a wonderful country with lovely landscapes from coastal beauties to mountain ranges.
Among a bunch of languages, English is commonly used and there's no need to learn Afrikaans if not for curiosity.
All paved roads are in excellent conditions. Inside National Parks it's definitely recommended to try unpaved roads and loops to access wild areas where most animals can be seen. A lion's stare is unforgettable. Just remember to drive slowly to leave wildlife in peace rather than in pieces. It's nothing but common to approach a bend and find a herd of animals on the road. Most of them are generally tame or, better, used to see humans into moving cages. We only experienced elephants giving warning signs and, of course, we got the message.

More postings about August 2003 fantastic vacation will appear here soon....
Baobab tree
Northern Kruger Park displays a fairly good number of Baobab trees, especially around an area named "Baobab Hill" south of Pafuri gate, the northernmost entrance to the Park.
Kruger National Park - Rhino
Animals roam, swim and fly free in Kruger National Park. Seeing them without bars in between is an unforgettable emotion.
Other than the most famous park in South Africa, a good number of private game reserves is also available.
