Should you have a desire for views over quiet, beautiful landscapes and should you not mind weather instability, visit Scotland.
Overall population is around 5 to 6 million mainly settled in the southern part of the country, in and around the large cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. The rest is therefore scarcely populated but there is a satisfactory network of roads, as scenic as they can be.
Our adventure started in Prestwick, the secondary Glasgow airport serviced by low-cost Ryanair airline, where we rented a car that took us around for 1,030 miles (1,650 Km) before returning it to the same location.
I am quite used to driving on both sides and one can definitely spot first-timers right in the parking lot, trying to figure out where are the controls of an alien vehicle. I guess some people are so concentrated that they don't even see the large multilingual sign posted at the lot exit gate.
I still remember my first drive test on British soil quite long ago. After landing in Heathrow I picked a car to reach Worthing, on the Channel. I was late for a meeting and I had to stop for directions to avoid looping around, so when I spotted a man in his retirement age I stopped the car right past him. I got out of the car and walked to him to learn I was on the right way, then rushed to my car and, while still thanking the gentleman, I opened the door, sat on the left seat and tried to grab an inexisting wheel. While going out to reach the other side, the man had a minimal British grin when I told him "how can you tell I'm a foreigner?"

Hi Antonello, a very nice page on Scotland! I am going to Scotland next year and can't wait :-) And I hope I will see some of those cute cows!
I also very much liked your recent misc posting about christmas presents!
Excellent page! Your haggis with mashed potatoes and turnips looks delicious. Must have been great to enjoy this traditional meal with some Blackthorn. Cheers from New Jersey, Bill
currency arrangements here definitely wierd!!!
I missed Kilt Rock on Skye :) and yes drive on the left is safer = I would also rename the highland cow McCoo!!
Hi, good start - the banknotes are not officially legal tender (only Bank of England notes are) but will be accepted anywhere in Scotland and much of England. Banks in Ulster also have their own notes.
