No matter if its 300,000 residents double during the warm season, this lively city has room for more and it's an interesting destination for its position. Enough of seaside? Just go visit the plentiful small nearby villages. Or take one hour drive to the surrounding mountains and leave behind the smell of sun lotion. |
| | Corsica (Corse) This chunk of mountain in the Mediterranean sea has nothing but breathtaking views. Along its western coast one can find quiet coves even not far from Ajaccio, the largest city on the island, while most sandy beaches lay on the eastern coast. The interior offers a variety of lanscapes ranging from snow-capped Monte Cinto to virgin woods of larch, chestnut and other trees. Relentless water streams would follow your way up remote valleys which are eager to be explored. Remember to fill up your tank when approaching remote areas, as you may not find as much gas as you wish. Roads are sometimes narrow enough to cram a motorhome into other vehicles, at times clogging two-way traffic for hours. Two-wheelers are definitely the ideal vehicles to enjoy Corsica. The island can be easily reached by ferries leaving from various French and Italian ports in less than 3 hours navigation. |
| | Gran Canyon du Verdon Either you want to go rafting, rock climbing, hiking or bunjee jumping, this area will prove satisfactory. Plenty of accommodation in this area, but during July and August it is suggested to make advance reservation at hotels or campsites. Nice views through a loop road around the canyon. |
