Thanks for your answer to 'Torino with children'. You've been a huge help.

Ciao Antonello, I enjoyed reading your reply in "Food for thought". Your point about brainwashing is well taken... I give myself headaches refusing indoctrination & the good vs bad dichotomy. I'll take the statistical 5 average anytime, over "we're all good" (or evil), hope springs eternal!
Gotta run, need salt to pinch over all the polemics on radio & tv! ;-) I'm going to an Italian grocer for fresh ricotta & the Originario (Comune) rice.
It's a beautiful day in Montréal, hope it's the same where you are.

Nothing like meeting old-time friends! Rare occasions nowadays. :-) At Milano's grocery, no one knew about Originario & they use Arborio for minestrone so I got that. :-) Buenasera!

I may need a warm plate of minestrone as it's snowing in town today. Arborio in it would do :)
Just a couple of inches that will soon melt away though, sort of nice as it's the first snow we see in Torino this - almost over - winter. Plenty of it in the surrounding mountains though and, thanks to a deep blue sky, the views were quite spectacular these past few days. :)

Ciao Antonello! You kindly gave me your brava nonna's Monte Bianco recipe one day & now I think of you as my Consigliere for Italian cooking... :-) Making Minestrone, using Il cucchiaio d'argento as usual. Of ten minestrones, I chose the Milanese & it's coming along fine after two hours slow cooking lardons & vegetables.
Time to add peas & Savoy cabbage, then rice, then herbs & Parmesan to serve. (Already have Parmesan crusts in the broth.)
I'm taken aback with the "rice" element... I started this project yearning for soup with ditalini or such pasta... but now see that the Milanese calls for rice! (as does Savoy & Tuscan minestrones...) Ok with rice this time but is it true minestrone, with rice? (Need to know for next time... it took me forever to chop everything up -- ha!) Sorry to bother you with mundane matters. :-)
Meantime, enjoy the winter & if you're ever in Montréal, count on a (fresh) bowl of minestrone to warm you up. Grazie mille!

Thanks Ant! The recipe called for long-grain rice, I thought it took a bit long to cook + it drank much of the liquid (my spoon stands in the bowl) but the minestrone is very good. I'll try Comune next time.
Now think I prefer rice... Ditalini or other pasta is too slippery.

The sweet soup is tempting! And it's nice to know that Peccato di Gola non è peccare... lol
    Ciao for now :-)
