1st of May Square - a market in the old part of Piran with a big cistern in the middle in the past used as a reservoir for water. Sorry for the photo, it has been taken from the back side of the square and does not show how marvel it is. Unfortunately I have not another one.
The St. Peter Church built in 13th in the Roman style, generally rebuilt in 1818 in pure clasicism. A great relief above the doors.
One of the oldest church in Piran, in 13th and 14th century it was also most attended by people. It stands at such a small square that can be easy missed.
The new Court House from the end of 19th century stands on the western side of the square.
Directions: Tartini Square
Nice house in the Venetian Gothic style from 15th century with a picturesque balcony in the corner. In building's face there is also a scuplture of lion with an latin inscription meaning "Let them say". According to the legend this writing was ordered by a marchant who fall in love with girl about whom people were talking that is unfaithful.
Directions: Tartini Square
Giuseppe Tartini, a great violinist and composer, was born in Piran in 1692 (+1770). In the end of 19th century the Venetian Antonio dal Zotto made a monument which dominates the Tartini Square up to now.
Light-house in Piran
At very tip of land stands a little light-house.
Southern beach
Concrete and rocky beaches are along big part of sea shore. There is also a place for diving at the shore in the north of the town.
An impressive building in the neo-renaissance style designed by Givanni Righetti and built in the seventies of the 19th century.
Directions: Tartini Square.
The brilliant oval-shaped square is the real heart of the town, covered by white marble, which looks like a wet pavement. In the middle stands the Giuseppe Tartini monument, on the left are a courthause and a hall town, in the background St George Church; backwards - a harbor.
