Trzy papryczki: Pizza for demanding

Poselska Street is real center of restaurants, where you can get food of different types and cuisines. One of those places is an Italian complex containing two separate locals: a pizzeria and restaurant, connected with outdoor, summer gardens.

The pizzeria called "Trzy papryczki" (3 small paprikas) serves not only pizzas, but also regular dishes, including very tasty soups. It is a little bit expensive than the typical pizzeria in Krakow, but also more elegant. Pizzas are prepared in the clay oven and there is a very nice summer garden with a little fountain and the golden fish in it.

Food is definitely all right, but helpings seem to be not so big. Although it is partly because they look relatively small on the big plates.

The menu and prices you can see at their webpage. Now (September 2006) it is only in Polish, but menu has also an English version. Prices are a bit higher than the page indicates.

Favorite Dish: Veal escallops with garlic and courgette and potatoes with rosemary.

Address: Poselska Street no 17

Comparison: more expensive than average

Pepe Rosso Ristorante: Italian taste

Yammy food, worse for the climate. At least there was lack of it when I was there last time (March 2007, weekend). Few people at the tables, silence, only whispers and very quiet, lazy music. Probably because in the neighbourhood there are plenty of pubs & clubs, cheaper and more attractive for the younger audience.

Favorite Dish: But we found a few dishes very tasty and the menu for sure is the strong side of that place. Great shrimps, tortelini, some meats and fish, many wines and... only one kind of draught beer.

Address: Kupa 15 St

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Kazimierz, former Jewish quarter.

Price: US$11-20

Rating: 4

Corleone: Good place for lovers of Italian cuisine

Poselska Street is real center of restaurants, where you can get food of different types and cuisines. One of those places is an Italian complex containing two separate locals: a pizzeria and restaurant, connected with outdoor, summer gardens.

During hot days at the front of restaurant stay the heroes of "Godfather" by Coppola, but inside you will be for sure safety from mafia ;-). For years the place had an opinion of the best Italian restaurant in Krakow. Yummy dishes, but prices quite high. I recommend you to seat in the garden, if only it was a good weather. It is really romantic.

The menu and prices you can see at their webpage.

Vega at Krupnicza Street - Krakow

Vega at Krupnicza Street

A few places in the center: Vegetarian cuisine

There are a few bars and restaurants in Krakow dedicated especially for vegetarians. The first of them was a net "VEGA". Now they have two bars: at Saint Gertruda Street no 7 and at Krupnicza Street no 22. In my opinion there have a unique climate (I prefer the latter) and very tasty and not so expensive food.

Website: VEGA

Another one net (in all the country, in Krakow they have only one bar now) is Green Way. Address: Mikolajska Street no 14. Open: 10 AM - 10 PM (mon-sat) and 11 AM - 9 PM (sun). I have not eaten there yet, but I like their bars in other cities. Big portions and rather cheap.

Website: Green Way

For orthodox (vegans etc.) the best choice would be the bar "Momo" (Dietla Street 49), open 8 AM - 8 PM. They have not only dinners, but also breakfasts. To be honest I do not like too much their food (dry and small portions). But some of cakes (e.g. made with carrots!) are delicious.

A Krakow's custom, maybe not typical vegetarian, is bar "U Stasi" (Mikolajska Street no 16, in a courtyard). This is tradicional Polish cuisine in popular form (cheap, but for sure not luxury). I strongly recommend you to try their pierogi (dumplings) and the best of them - pierogi ruskie (russians dumplings), filled with mixture of (between others) cheese and potatoes.

Comparison: least expensive

Directions: All the bars are in walking distance from the historical center of the city. The nearest from the Main Market Square are Green Way and U Stasi.

Price: less than US$10
