The Island of Sao Vicente - Cape Verde

My Island

Dear all,

Finally I made a start to update my travelpages! It's still very much under contructions, but I'm proud to say I've started!

Meanwhile, I've decided to give you a preview of my travelpages. Just to make sure, that once you've read the preview, you wanne have more!

I'd have to start with my place of birth, Sao Vicente, one of the Cape Verde Islands. The Cape Verde Islands are situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa. The archipelago is made up of 10 islands and 8 isles of volcanic origin.

As said I was born on the island of Sao Vicente. After celebrating my first birthday, we moved to Rotterdam, Holland. So I ofcourse have no memories of the time I spent there. But luckely I had the opportunity to visit Sao Vicente and had the pleasure of learning more about my roots.

Sao Vicente is the most cultural and cosmopolitan island of the archipelago.

The Port city of Mindelo is the capital of Sao Vicente. A cultured centre with a community of intellectuals, artists and musicians. Mindelo offers an intensive nightlife. The carnival in Mindelo is Cape Verde's liveliest, absorbing the influences of the Brazilian carnival.

Also the traditional festival of Baia das Gatas held for three days and three nights (on the beach) has become a reputable, international music event.

A lagoon separates naturally from the ocean by volcanic formation to form a swimming pool. The beach of Sao Pedro is long and spectacular and , in the opinion of professionals, is one of the finest places in the world for speed wind surfing.

It has been a long time since I visited Cape Verde, but I definitely intent on going there in the next 2 or 3 years. Since I've heard the most amazing stories about the other islands, I for sure want to also visit them!

Portugal, it's been a long time!

Portugal, is a country that I've visited a lot of times. Main reason was the fact that I have family overthere.

Most of the time I would stay in Lisbon and enjoy my family, the nice beach named Costa da Caparica and ofcourse the decilcious kitchen of the Portuguese restaurants. I especially love the fish specialties!

Lisbon is a very beautiful city. Just by walking down the small streets and see all the old and tiny cafe and restaurant makes me feel happy.

One must see activity for when you're in Lisbon, is definitely the Christ statue in Almada.

I've also visited the Algarve. Albufeira, Quarteira and Armacao de Pera are places visited by many tourists. Here you find the big hotels and resorts, and naturally a great nightlife where the teen-agers go wild!
