Rediscovering Vancouver

by Amareyui - last update: Oct 17, 2004

Each city loses its initial glamour and luster after being its residence for a few years. Vancouver is no difference, and might very well be more suspectable to such syndrome. The imposing local mountains, the cozy beaches, the cherry blossoms in spring, the long summer nights, the red-turning leaves, the occasional snow... all become as unnoticeable as the cool breeze that circulates the city.
Vancouver can seem very dull, particularly during those long, rainy days, weeks, months. The faults of the city become oppressive when the sunlight never breaks through: the crime rate, the drug addicts, the break-ins, the poor road network, the careless drivers, the overdevelopment in Downtown, the lack of exciting happening, the slow and unproductive pace, the often rude populace...
As I am expecting the end of my time in Vancouver, I look back. I cannot help but resign to the reality of how little effort I have spent in exploring this hometown of mine. Or to be exact, out of the town. The charm of Vancouver has always been its fascinating setting in the Pacific Northwest and the picturesque surroundings, yet I have been too inclined to stick to my own area of movement and proclaim that as Vancouver.
As the sun begins its daily duty by sweeping away the conflicting darkness at this hour of early dawn, the stage is set for the beauty of Vancouver to again showcase itself to anyone who looks for it.
Can't resist to put a rainy day photo here

Hi there. Just so you know, the Museum of Anthropology no longer offers free admission on Tuesdays from 5pm to 9pm. Instead, we charge a flat rate fee of $6 fee per person during this time (nearly half off regular admission fees.) Blame it on the economy!

http://www.stevestonvillage.com has nothing to do with Steveston, as it's just a link farm, but this one does: http://www.StevestoniVillage.com
