I was in the South Bank (Kangaroo Point, to be exact) to rock climb one night, and found out that place had a good view of the opposite shore's (Brisbane City) skyline. There were also people having barbeque at night, with no street light and hand torch only. Quite an interesting experience, it should be.

The mountain is surrounded by the 220 hectare Mt Coot-tha reserve which is an oasis of natural bushland and native wildlife. The Taylor Range of which Mt Coot-tha is a part, forms a backdrop of hills to the city of Brisbane. Besides the panoramic views over the city of Brisbane at the hilltop lookout, Mt. Coot-ha offers some light trails for causal trekking. Origin of nameIn 1880, the area formerly known as the "One Hill Tree" was declared a Public Recreation Reserve and it's name was officially changed to Mt Coot-tha. The original name was derived by virtue of a solitary Eucalypt tree that stood at this southern most point on an otherwise bare knoll. The adopted name 'Coot-tha' or 'Kuta' was taken from the Aboriginal name for the area which meant 'honey' or 'the place of wild honey'.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, established in 1927, is the world's first and largest koala sanctuary. Most koalas looked very lazy, chewing on leaves while seemingly falling asleep. I don't understand why anyone will pay to cuddle a koala, but the long line up proves many people do like to take a picture of such and show their friends and relatives of how cute that particular koala is. Open every day from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (from 1:30 PM on Anzac Day, April 25)

Directions: By Bus: Brisbane council bus number 430 runs hourly to Lone Pine from the city. It leaves from Koala Platform underneath the Myer Centre in the Queen Street Mall in the city. Adult fares are $3.40 and children $1.70 (subject to change) .

The second biggest attraction was the kangaroos. Perhaps being too close to their more attended neighbours, these kangaroos were just as unenergetic. They laid stilly on the ground, possibly hunched slightly if someone was trying to feed them. The only time a kangaroo would hop was to either find some leftover food, or changed a site to continue its nap. More pictures
