    • The Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain of continental Portugal, 1,933m. Located in inland central Portugal, this beautiful area called the Serra da Estrela is in fact a protected National Park.

    It is a wonderful place to explore. I had the luck to see it with snow but without snow it has amazing views as well.

    You can see on my pic a view over the town of Manteigas.

    • This was the first time I was visiting Serra da Estrela, and well, it was the first time I was been trapped on the road for 7 hours because a heavy snowfall. The snowfall also forced the authorities to close the roads of access from Seia and Covilhã to the Tower, so I didn’t go to the top of the mountain (Torre), but I enjoyed beautiful views like this one you can see on my photo.

    • This splendid white scenery is really amazing. It was funny that I told to my niece that it seems to a big wedding cake. I’d never been so much time on the snow so even I was stuck there I was enjoying a lot that beauty.

    • Our hotel was booked at Manteigas a small mountain town located at 700 m of altitude and situated at the Glacial Valley of the river Zezere.
    It is a quiet town with beautiful views, white houses and some churches.
    Manteigas was officially recognised as a municipality in 1188.
    On my photo you can see the Igreja de S. Pedro (S. Peter Church). It has a beautiful inside.

     I've been to Guarda, too, to see its Sé. It was astonishing; I couldn't believe how it would have been like to build it for 150 years! But it was a great, rather relaxing trip overall, except those 40 minutes that I got lost my way! LOL    		CALSF Sun Feb 12, 2006 02:22 UTC
