Tenerife is a fascinating island, the largest of the Canary Islands, has an area of 2.057 sq km and a population of almost 750.000. It?s situated 200 miles off the west coast of North West Africa. It is dominated by Mount Teide, the extinct volcano that stands at 12,198 feet high (3718m), being the highest mountain of Spanish territory. Its peak can be seen from all of the other Canary Islands. It offers great forests, exotic fauna and flora, deserts, mountains, volcano?s, sometimes snow, incredibly beautiful coastlines and spectacular beaches. This island has singular characteristics; the South is hot, dry and arid and with great beaches; the North is green and fertile, and rains occasionally. |
| | When I visited Tenerife I stayed in Puerto de La Cruz . Puerto de la Cruz is the main tourist resort of the Northern part of the Island. It is a cosmopolitan city with excellent hotels and the great Lago Martianez, which you can see in the opening photo.
In Puerto de la Cruz the modern and the new functional structures coexist with the typical and old corners of the small fisher's town which gave origin to the present city. |
