"Interesting Local History" Königsdorf by Tallchick80

I spent over a month and a half in Koeningsdorf, and while I enjoyed it, there wasn't much to do there.

The "town" really isn't a town at all, in fact, Koenigsdorf doesn't even have a store. It's a couple of houses and a large youth hostel, which is the primary reason I am even writing about Koenigsdorf.

Koenigsdorf was a Hitler youth training facility back in WW2, and most of the original buildings used by the Hitler Youth still stand to this day as a functioning youth hostel where anyone can stay for a night or two.

Surrounding the youth hostel complex are dense woods, but in these woods are the true treasures of the area. Hidden away by almost 60 years of neglect there are still bunkers buried under ground as well as deep scars left by bombs. The bunkers are in no way preserved or blocked off, so one can easily (and carefully) climb into the old bunkers and see where they kept their anti-aircraft guns pointed up at the sky. You won't find much as far as memorabilia goes, but you will easily find toads, salamanders, and the occasional tick if you aren't careful.

The locals are understandably not too keen to discuss the history of the area, but they do keep up placards and information regarding the use of the facilities and you can even see an old Schedule on the wall of what the children of Hitler Youth were expected to do during their days.

If you are a WW2 enthusiast, you'd enjoy a visit to Koenigsdorf.
