A Dying Treasure | Mt Longonot mirrored in Lake Naivasha |
Lake Naivasha is a beautiful soda lake in the eastern part of the great Rift Valley. It is located a short distance from a large active cratered volcano called Mt Longonot that is beautifully mirrored by the lake. The lake is full of flora and fauna that intensify its splendor, it is truly a shame for world heritage that this lake is being lost.
Argricultural waste and human waste are contributing to the death of Lake Naivaisha, the water is drying up and the life inside the lake is dying because of pollution and overfishing.
Flower and produce growers who export their products to Europe and America are primarily responsible for the death of Lake Naivasha. Joan Root, a filmmaker and activist went head to head with the flower growers of Lake Naivasha, she pled for the life of her beloved Kenyan lake and her fight was met with her early morning assasination at her Lake Naivasha home in 2006.
It's a beautiful lake, but it's future is bleak and uncertain. |
| Boat Hire at Lake Naivasha |
| | Wildlife Sanctuary at Lake Naivasha One of the best things you can do is go to the Lake Naivasha country club where you can hire boats to take you on a lake safari. From the boats you can see various kinds of pelicans, flamingos, cranes, as well as zebras, wildebeest, hartebeest, and watch the local children swim close to the hippos that live in the lake. |
