The lesser-known-other-half of Tampin Pulau Sebang is a place in the district of Alor Gajah, Melaka. It is located just at the states' border of Melaka and Negeri Sembilan. It share the same common main road with Tampin as well as other public amenities. Despite its name, Pulau Sebang is not an island at all (pulau means island in Malay).
For years, Pulau Sebang has been over shadowed by Tampin. The most obvious prove to this fact is the Tampin Railway Station which is located in its territory but still being called as Tampin for all these years. In fact, the Pulau Sebang town itself is commonly refered to as Tampin by the locals |
| | However, efforts are being made by the local municipality to promote Pulau Sebang as a town of its own with its own character. For instance, the Tampin Railway Station has been unofficially re-named as Pulau Sebang Railway station. The buildings within the town has also been given a new life and character as they are painted brightly in shades of orange or yellow. Those travelling along the main road will definately notice the sheer contrast between Pulau Sebang and Tampin as you will notice that most of the buildings in Tampin are quite sombre-looking.
Regardless of what it is being refered to, Pulau Sebang is poised to be a thriving town along the Melaka-Negeri Sembilan border. |

SLLiew Fri Oct 5, 2007 17:35 UTC Just curious why it is called a Pulau. Tampin has been in Geography lessons as the railway station. I must have passed through the few times I took a train from KL to Singapore but will stop for a look next time. | Wild_Orchid Tue Mar 29, 2005 07:01 UTC never heard of this place-esp the train station!! | muddybok Mon Feb 7, 2005 16:55 UTC You really save me from great embarrassment. I almost wrote the whole Pulau Sebang as Tampin. Sigh!! |
