Kuala Kedah is a busy coastal fishing settlement located about 15 km from Alor Setar, the state capital of Kedah. The focal point of the settlement is its bustling port where there is a large jetty for ferries to and fro Pulau Langkawi. For most people, it is not much more than a jumping-off point for the journey to Langkawi. The ferry jetty at Kuala Kedah is undoubtedly the centre of activity for the place. As a fishing settlement, Kuala Kedah is also noted for its good seafood restaurants, serving fresh seafood from the sea. It is also fame for its local delicacy - Laksa Kuala Kedah - which is made of thick rice vermicelli with spicy fish gravy.
