Probably Vardoe is the most unusual town in Norway. Having only around 2,000 inhabitants it has a fortress, police, airport, hospital, museums, hotel, inns, pubs and a lot of non-governmental organisations and institutions. If you are not extremely interested in solely making love, you simply need something to spend your time on. Many 'Vardovaeringer' are therefore keen on local history, and the local museum has a great collection!
The history begins at 1300 when the fortress was built. Some houndreds of years later a number of witches were burnt to death at the nearby Domen Hill.
