Just had 4 days in Siem Reap November 25-29th and what a surprise it has changed so much. There are so many more big hotels(see pic) more people more traffic but has still managed to retain a lovely feeling.
The markets are still good seeing hands massage are stilll working hard and pub street has such a great atmosphere loads of choice for food or drinks but no music blaring and competing with each other.
We stayed in a different GH Bou Savy see my page. These palatial hotels look fab I think compared to other cities they are quite reasonably priced but we prefer to suppor the locally owned guest houses where you can sit and chat to the locals.
We spent 3 nights in SR after taking the ferry from PP-SR at a cost of $US20 for the 5 hour trip. We were quite impressed with the trip going. We had previously booked our accom over the net in Australia at the Ta Son GH. We found it to be very clean, comfrtable & very friendly run by a family. Our first impression was not a good one as it is set back behind a corregated iron fence but were pleasantly surprised. We paid $US6 per night for a twin room with fan, bathroom & tv for air con room it is $US10 no breakfast which seems to be the norm in Cambodia.
The GH were able to arrange an English speaking guide at a cost of $US20 per day and also a mini van there were 4 of us also $US20 per day. Our guide knew everyhting there was to know about all the temples.
There is a very good market in SP close enough to walk to, they sell all sorts of books, stone tablets anything made of stone, silver or wood. Any sort of souvenir is available here at very cheap prices.
- Pros:it feels good but
- Cons:it's growing up

Your photos of Angkor Wat from the balloon are good, this is what I hoped to see but didn't, the smog was so thick, I could hardly make the complex out, so it was very disappointing for me.
Thanks so much for replying to my query about the balloon trip! I will definitely do it! Greetings from Phnom Penh (vacation at the moment)
Enjoy your new trip to Cambodia next year !
