Unfortunately I only had 1 day spare after attending my nephews wedding plus a day to recover!!!!! I pre booked a day trip to Litchfield Park and only wish I had longer to experience at least an overnighter. It was brilliant. We visited and swam at several falls and water holes. At the end of the trip we received a voucher to eat at a local pub where we received a fantastic meal. Alternately there is also Kakadu which is probably the best known of the NT parks. Even a day trip is well woprth the time and money

Directions: The main street is so geared to tourists it is fantastic. You can grab a meal, a room or a trip ranging from a 1 day through to a around Australia bus ticket.

The first stop on our day trip was at Buley Rockhole. What can I add that the picture does not already show. We swam in lovely cool clear water and some people were brave enough to "bombie" into the water hole. I visited early October and there was plenty of water still flowing but it was very hot don't forget the sunscreen, water and hat.

As part of a day trip to Litchfield National Park our second stop was Wangi Falls. We were ablr to swim in this beautiful pool right over to the rock face where it gets pretty hairy because it is certainly bigger as you get closer. Parts of the pool are quite deep if you are not a confident swimmer I would stick to the edge as there are no lifeguards out here.
If you can afford to spend a couple of days on one of these trips I think it would be well worth it unfortunately I only had 1 day and it was not long enough even though we did manage to see a lot.

The last swimming stop we made was at Florence Falls. I found it quite difficult to get into the swimming hole here as it is surrounded by rocks I badly bruised my toe when I slipped on a rock and I wasn't alone I witnessed a British tourist who realy had a bad fall on the rocks he was almost in tears. It is beautiful but a little dangerous. A lot of brave or stupid?? people climb up and jump off the top. I gave up in the end and just enjoyed watching everybody else from the shade of a tree.

Booked a day trip out of Darwin through the YHA at a cost of $AU134 plus entrance fee. Picked up behind the YHA alternately there is hotel pick up at 6.30am. We drove for about 90 mins before stopping for breakfast at own cost I had a hot muffin straight from the oven they also do full cooked breakfasts.
Unfortunately 1 day does not do justice to Kakadu but if like me you are stuck for time don't miss it. Of course you must chose the right time of year because of the wet and dry season. Most of the park is closed from Nov-May because of the rain. I was lucky going the first week of May although we didn't get to see as much bird life or crocoldiles as I had hoped simply because they are spoilt for choice with all the water.
