It is almost 12 months since we visited Laos but the memories are still vivid in my memory. We did a lot of walking around Vientianne there is lots to see and you can stop off for a beer or coffee along the way. I find just walking around a town is the best way to see the unusual things that a lot of people miss out on seeing. There are some great old builidngs around the streets unfortunately they look like they are falling apart and would be magnificent if restored.

There is quite a lot of budget accomodation to be had but when we were there it was pretty hard to find. We saw lots of back packers wandering around looking for accomodation. There were 6 of us and we wanted to stay together so we wandered around to a few hotels until we found on that suited.

The markets are pretty good here we spent a bit of time wandering around there is plenty to see and buy but you need to bargain.

Pros:Easy to wander around
Cons:Beautiful buildings falling apart
In a nutshell:More than just cheap shopping

I really enjoyed reading your pages on Laos, its a lovely part of the world. Would like to hear you thoughts on Vang Vieng - we found it horrible but other don't!
