"The Ring Of Kerry" County Kerry by Marpessa

From Cork I went on a day trip and did the Ring of Kerry. It took 12 hours, of which the first 2 hours were kinda average, but when we got to Dingle Bay... wow! It was a perfect day, blue skies, hardly any clouds and we could see out to the Skellig Islands.

There were plenty of stops along the way:

The first stop was very quick - 20 mins at Macroom (most people just seemed to get a drink or go to the bathroom)

Later we had an hour and a half at Killarney - a very nice place to have lunch.

We then had half an hour at Kerry Bog Village (this costs €4) - this is where you can see how turf cutter's and blacksmith's used to live (see my 'General Tips' for more info).

After the bog village it is about 2½hrs until the next stop at Derrynane - although we stopped briefly on the side of the road near Dingle Bay to enjoy the views - a beautiful and sunny day!

For information on Derrynane see my 'Things To Do'

After we left Derrynane it was about 6pm (we had left Cork at 10am). It was then about a 50min drive to Kenmare - 2 time winner of Ireland's 'tidy towns' competition. At Kenmare we had dinner and did some shopping at Quills - buying some souvenirs for my family and friends.

After that it was back to Cork (which took about 2 hours), listening to some traditional Irish music along the way.

So although the day was long, it was still a good day and as long as you can stand long bouts on a bus - I recommend it!

Nice tips on County Kerry! My ex/current amour's grandmother was from there. She married his grandfather, a Connolly from Co. Cork, after they met in NYC! Those buildings are certainly colorful, aren't they? Can't wait to get to Ireland.
