LONDON
I have been to London quite a few times now, and each visit I discover something more and I always have a great time!
London is always my starting point when I fly to Europe as it is an easy city for me to navigate (socially and culturally... and now geographically as well :) ) and also because it is a brilliant city!
My first trip to London was back in July 2004. So it was a bit confusing at first finding my way around, understanding the tube, realising you have to queue for *everything*... :). So I spent a lot of time walking through streets like Oxford St. and Regent St., through parks and gardens, going to the theatre and taking the 'Big Bus' hop-on hop-off tour that gave me a glimpse of London that would leave me wanting more. |

I had planned for a longer stay in London when I went back in 2005, but I ended up taking a trip over to Copenhagen instead (a last minute decision). But there were also a couple of little differences in my trip that year. I didn't have to use a map as often, I knew which tube stops to use and which lines I wanted, and I shopped for my food at supermarkets (instead of just grabbing take-away) and bought local newspapers. And I returned there again in July 2007, and had two friends travelling with me. For them it was their first trip to London and I acted as (a bit) of a guide. We had fun and saw all the main sites, as well as me finally going on the London Eye and going to Camden and the markets there. It was good to come back and I'm sure I'll make at least one more trip here before I go home ;-). |
THE UNITED KINGDOMIn my two trips abroad I have spent about 2-3 weeks traveling around the UK. My initial reaction when visiting cities like London, Edinburgh and York, was that I was surprised how small the cities were. Not geographically, but the size of the streets, they're small compared to some of the 'main' streets here in Geelong and Melbourne. However, I actually liked the fact that the streets were small, it made them more pedestrian orientated - and since I spend the majority of my time walking when visiting places overseas, it was fine by me! :) In the UK I have traveled from Dingwall (near Inverness) down to Dover, so feel free to check out my pages and email me if you have any questions. |
