I spent a weekend in York. York is a beautiful place. I loved walking through its narrow streets and passing the old buildings it was like taking a step back in time. York has a very interesting history as it has been a prominent city in the north of England for centuries. It has been seen as a 'gateway to the north' of the British Isles. For a brief history on York (From the Romans to the Railway Age) see this website; http://www.salvonet.com/yorkweb/history/ |
The photo of Clifford's Tower (above) and this one of York/York Minster (taken from the top of Clifford's Tower) were taken 20 mins apart, nice change in the weather! Although these clouds looked threatening, it only rained lightly, so I decided that then would be the perfect time to get some fish n' chips! :) | | |
| York - a street somewhere |
| | But an hour later the sky was a little less threatening and so everyone continued their shopping! York has a lot of great shops that can make for a good afternoon of shopping. My favourite was a 'Borders' book shop (check out my 'Shopping' Tip for more information) Hehe - one other thing I loved about York... the bakery's - mmm yum!
