  • On the 15th of August, 2004 I went to the All-Ireland Semi-Final hurling match between Wexford and Cork. It was mad! I had watched a match on TV the week before, but it doesn't compare to being at a match! This game was held at Croke Park, Dublin and there was just over 62,000 people there. It was amazing, the game was great (although Wexford got crushed) and the atmosphere was fantastic - I loved it!!

I think for any sports fan, a trip to Croke Park whilst in Dublin is a must! Whether it is for a Hurling match or Gaelic football.

Or even when every second year there is International Rules, which is Ireland versus Australia in a hybrid game of Gaelic football and Aussie rules. It is taken in turns of being played in each country, there are two matches a week apart, points are on aggregate. Australia won the last test in Australia, 2005.

Tours Around Dublin / Ireland: City Sightseeing Dublin
  • Tip Rating:
  • I really only did one 'sightseeing' thing when I was in Dublin and that was going on a bus tour. Due to not having a lot of time in the city (and spending my nights at clubs or down in Co. Wexford) I didn't go into any of the museums or galleries - at least that gives me plenty to do on my next trip!

Anyway I took a City Sightseeing Dublin bus from Upper O'Connell St and took the route that goes all over the city (the red route, the other route is yellow). I think the best thing about this sightseeing tour was the driver - Pat. He was a great guy, perfect as a commentator, and guided us around his city. His running commentary on the city was informative, funny and honest. He was definitely a 'tell it like it is' man. But even if you don't get Pat as your driver, I think the recorded commentary would still be just as informative.

The tour goes over the north and south parts of the city and even out and into Phoenix Park. It is a hop-on hop-off tour, and will stop at places like: Guinness Storehouse, National Museum, Old Jameson Distillery, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Trinity College, Temple Bar, St. Stephen's Green and many other places.

Tours are in: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian and Russian.
They run (on average) every 15 minutes.

    Tickets (valid on both routes)
    Adult: EUR 14
    Concession (Student): EUR 12
Child (5-15 yrs old): EUR 5

With your ticket you can also get discounts on museums, galleries, distilleries and Supermacs (see website below for more details).

    Ha'penny Bridge: Ha'penny Bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • Ha'penny Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the River Liffey. It is titled as such because it used to cost a halfpenny to cross the bridge (as it was the only pedestrian bridge to span the Liffey), however, today you can cross it free of charge.

From the middle of the bridge you can get good views of the city, the bridge itself is also very nice with its white iron design. The Ha'penny Bridge will take you from Bachelor's Walk (at the end of O'Connell St) over to Temple Bar.

Although please note that this is more of a 'historic' bridge than something in Dublin you should rush to see.
