Originally when I planned for my eight and a half weeks in Europe, Copenhagen was not on my 'list'. After Edinburgh I was planning on heading back down to London and spending my last six nights there. But for one reason or another I found myself wanting to visit just one more country in Europe. I had considered Cardiff in Wales, Barcelona in Spain and even Reykjavik in Iceland (although since I was at the end of my trip this one turned out to be a little too expensive to be a realistic idea), but in the end I knew I wanted to see Copenhagen. This is because twice over the past year I had gone through Denmark but had never seen more than an airport terminal and a ferry terminal :). I did not regret my choice.
Although I have to admit that I did not plan so well for this trip, as I knew the address for my accommodation, and the directions to get there, I had no real idea about the actual layout of the city. And since it was dark on my arrival I ended up getting myself lost. For me it had already been a long trip from Edinburgh, by train to London (that seemed to take forever), waited at Stansted airport (the conveyor belt that takes your luggage wasn't working) then by plane to Copenhagen, then a bus (then getting lost) then a taxi to my hostel. It didn't put me in the best mood for my first night in this beautiful city (and I think I, uh, took this out on a couple of my friends in sms messages - sorry guys :) ).
But, luckily, my first night did not dictate how I would feel for the rest of my stay in Copenhagen...
Once I was over my bad arrival and had had a good nights sleep, I was ready to see the sights of Copenhagen. Even though I had walked through some dirty areas of the city (the water in Peblinge Sø and Sortedams Sø for instance) on my first morning, I still liked this city straightaway. It is very easy to walk around, and has such beautiful and colourful architecture, and excellent gardens and museums.
I also particularly liked its waterfront. I was brought up in a (sort of) coastal city, I don't think I could stay anywhere that wasn't near a large body of water for a long time. I love the ocean. So everynight I was in Copenhagen, before going back to my hostel, I went for a walk around the city. Usually I would end my day somewhere around Strøget, so I would walk by Nyhavn, then along Larsens Plads and up by the harbour. Sometimes I would just sit up at the Kastellet and look out towards Öresund. My time in Copenhagen was very relaxing. It was at the end of my trip, I had already been travelling for two months, so now I was just taking it easy. So I didn't exactly go to a whole lot of museums or anything, but I did get to see a lot of the city by foot.
- Pros:Excellent architecture and gardens. Friendly people!
- Cons:Rubbish in some areas - can't think of anything else

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Copenhagen, despite getting off to a rough start. I went there in June of this year and had a great time cycling all around, also went to two operas at Operaen and Gamle Scene, and a concert at the new K3NC2R1 HUS4T.
