Mmm... Venezia. Once again, I was only here a short time, but I really liked it here - despite the number of pigeons in Piazza San Marco, I had a good time.

Venice was the last stop on my 2 week trip through Italy (having already been through, Milan, Rome, Florence, Pisa and Verona). This was a great way to end my trip in sunny Italy. Ok, so there were thousands of people here (so many tourists - including me), and I got lost, and I didn't actually do a whole lot of sightseeing (ie, going through heaps of galleries, museums or cathedrals), but I had a great time here, just enjoying the hot summer days and strolling through the streets taking pleasure in being on holiday, in being in Venice!
Due to the fact that I was really only here about 2 days I only have a few tips, but hopefully they will be helpful to you. Part of me would love to come back to Venice, but I think it would really have to be at a time when there are less tourists (than say in August). I would probably pick a different area, other than San Marco to stay in - not that the area was bad, it was just it was almost overcrowded with shops aimed at tourists (even the expensive boutiques). I think next time I would try to do more 'local things', simple things like shopping for food at a market, sitting in a small piazza enjoying the company of my friends, and I don't know.... just something to make me feel a little less like a mainstream tourist.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked Venice and I will come back, I just want to view it from a different angle (hopefully you understand that and it makes sense to you).

:)

I have a very similar picture of St Mark's Square on my Venice page!!!!! It must be a very popular vantage point for snappers!! Of course it is - its such a grand view of spectacular location!
