No worries mate!

If you ever need to escape from everything and everyone, then Fitzroy Island is for you! (But not your phone, as there isn't any reception out there).

Fitzroy Island is situated on the Great Barrier Reef, and is the third most nothern island on the reef... it is surrounded by, blue, green and aqua waters. It is reached by a 45 minute ferry from Cairns.

Fitzroy Island has only one accomodation: Fitzroy Island Resort. That is because the rest of the island is a National Park. Now, this resort is classified for people on a budget, that is because there is hostel-like dorms, with about 10 rooms to a dorm, 2 bunk beds in each room. There are also bunkhouses, with beach front views. (Although that doesn't really matter as all accomodation is within 10m of the beach).

However, dining on the island is a little more expensive, put aside at least $10 for breakfast and $10 for dinner. There are no ATMs on the island, and limited EFTPOS transactions - so make sure you bring plenty of money with you.

Snorkeling on the Reef

When going kayaking you are given a chance to snorkel - which I definitely recommend!!

I was there once years ago and hope to make it his time. Beautiful island-worth the trip. DON'T go to Green Island, this is better.
