I live only an hour from Melbourne and come to this city quite a few times a year. Australia is one of those countries where it seems for a city to be a city it has to have skyscrapers and plenty of them. And Melbourne is home to quite a few tall buildings. The Rialto is the tallest office building in the Southern Hemisphere - but only the second tallest building in Melbourne (the apartment building - Eureka Tower is taller).

However, Melbourne is more than just tall buildings. There is art, fesitivities, culture, history, some amazing and contrasting architecture, sport and a whole lot of great places to shop and eat.

Usually when I come to Melbourne it's for something. To go shopping for something particular (language books, clothes), or to go to an event (theatre or football).

It's been a while since I've been to Melbourne to see the sights, to just spend a day or two seeing what the city has to offer. Lately I've been making some trips up here and I am discovering more and more of what the city has to offer.

One thing I like about Melbourne is that it is a city that always seems alive. No matter what time of the year there is always something on: Australian Open, Big Day Out, Moomba, Melbourne Show, concerts and many activities are always happening.
