The AMP Tower is a 300m tall 'needle-shaped' tower. It has awesome views of all of Sydney. They have free tours, where the tour-guide will point out that; circular quay is not circular, central station is not central, and that Australia Square is cylindrical. Definitely worth it!! Just be warned that when you buy your ticket to go up the tower - it is double ended, so that you may go up to the observation deck (and restaurant), and to see the skytour show - which gives a sound and visual show of what has made Australia.... Australia. So don't be like me and buy two tickets - when you only need one! Open: Sun-Fri: 9am - 10.30pm Sat: 9am - 11.30pm Has good wheelchair access.

Taronga Zoo is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon. If arriving from the ferry, take the chairlift or bus to the top (Taronga Zoo is on a hill) - they're free. From the top its easy to work your way down. There is a lot to do, there is the seal show and the bird show, both of which are entertaining and informative. You can also (for a dollar or two) get your picture taken feeding a giraffe or standing right next to a koala. If you are travelling solo one of the zoo staff will happily take a photo for you. There are also many places in Taronga Zoo where you get superb views of Sydney Harbour. The only thing is that buying lunch can be a bit on the expensive side.

While I didn't go inside the Opera House, walking around it is impressive all the same. It is situated on the harbour, with the Harbour Bridge right across from it. It may be one of the places that all tourists go to see in Sydney, but there is a reason for this - it's stunning, the architecture is amazing. Tip: Walk around the Opera House, then have a seat where the Harbour Bridge is right in front of you and the Opera House behind you, and just take it all in. Trivia: there are 1,056,00 Swedish ceramic tiles on the roof.

This is a very cool building that I stumbled upon. While it may be the Department of Lands, something that doesn't bring an exclamation of 'wow!' to the lips, in the sides of the building you will notice numerous statues. A very beautiful building.

To the left of Circular Quay there is an area known as 'The Rocks'. It is a glimpse of colonial Australia - as this area is historically important as the foundation of Sydney and Australia when she was young. It is only a glimpse because it is full of 'Australiana' type places - souvenir stores, etc. But the architecture, tree lined streets, Argyle Cut (a 'tunnel' under the road leading up to the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and the ambiance of the place is very nice and relaxed.

Darling Harbour is a great place to walk around. There are many restaurants to choose from if you're looking for somewhere to relax for lunch or dinner. There is also the Sydney Aquarium, Australian National Maritime Museum, Powerhouse Museum, LG IMAX theatre Sydney, (close by) the Chinese Garden of Friendship (a very beautiful garden designed on the principles of Yin and Yang), Galaxy World, Australian Heritage Fleet, Sydney Entertainment Centre, The Outback Centre, plus a whole lot more! There are also many cruises and jet boats that depart from Darling Harbour. For more information on Darling Harbour I recommend the website below.
