Anyone who grew up on the USA side of the border of Canada knows that the Canadian age limit for drinking and gambling is only 19, as opposed to 21 here in the states. I cannot count the number of weekends we crossed the Ambassador Bridge to either go to the casino or go to the now defunct "Don Cherry's". In it's place are clubs like Pepper's and Joker's now.
I went to Pepper's last summer with some younger co-workers and had a really good time. I did take a risk in doing this however, because I was the only person in the vehicle over 21 ;) It has a second upper level that encircles the dance floor incase you want to relax with a drink before heading out there!
I must say the Canadian Casinos seem to pay out much better than their Detroit counterparts. My largest single nite win of $3400 was made between the River Belle (no longer there) and the temporary Casino Windsor in 1996. Don't forget our USA v. Canadian dollar exchange rate! More bang for your American buck!
What might be shocking is that while the teens are crossing the border to party, I feel MUCH safer on the streets of Windsor than I would Detroit ANY day hands down. The streets are clean, and I have never seen a fight or arguement on the street any time I have been there. However you should be on the look out for drunken drivers around 2am.
While you are in Canada, don't forget to stop at Becker's and get yourself some Lays/Hostess Dill Pickle or Ketchup flavored chips!!! MMM!!!
- Pros:Cleaner, safer streets and better casinos and the good monetary exchange rate.
- Cons:Tons of underagers drinking and driving back to the states
- In a nutshell:Great casino, fun clubs, and rewarding exchange rate!

Hi Carrie, We're leaving for a couple of days in Windsor tomorrow - our second trip there. This time we'll look for the unique potato chips. Thanks for the tips.
I am going to Detroit in about a week. Was planning on visiting Windsor for a day. Any recommendations? I don't really want to drink or gamble but rather enjoy a mall or something very historical "Canadian". Any recommendations would help. Thank you.
Wow Carrie that was a very accurate description of Windsor I lived in Windsor from 1970 till 1979 ,and and the last 24 years 15 Km East of Windsor ,yes Windsor is a great City with a great Riverfront.
