Mythological Island ... | The Azure Window in Dwejra |
Gozo is not just Malta's smaller sister, it has a character of its own ... it is quiter, greener and much more rural.
Gozo is also known as the Island of Calypso. This latter name has its origins from the Greek mythological location Ogygia referred to in Homer's Odyssey. It is said that the nymph Calypso held Odyseuss as a prisoner of love for 7 years in Gozo. |
| | General Information Gozo is a small island with an area of 67 square km and the much loved home of 28,000 inhabitants.
The main tourist attractions include: - Victoria and its famous open air market - The Old Citadel, the fortified city - Dwejra - Calypso Cave - Xerri Cave - Xlendi Bay - Marsalforn Bay - Ramla il- Hamra Bay - The Ggantija Neolithic Temples - Its quiet, relaxed rural atmosphere!!
Gozo can be easily reached from Malta by ferry or helicopter. Both means of transport are quite fun! |
I visit Gozo 2-3 times a year and usually stay there over the weekend. This page is based on the places I visited in Feb '04 weekend, as well as some information about this beautiful little island. I should mention that one can visit much more places in a couple of days but the main aim of my stay in Gozo was to relax and sleep ... away from home and work!! |
