Luggage and bags: A rucksack is much more efficient than a suitcase here! Especially if you plan to visit the more remote areas, or if there are boat trips involved. More comfortable anyway!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you plan on doing some hiking good hiking boots will help - if possible they should be waterproof as it rains a lot throughout the year. Don't forget a raincoat! The weather is quite hot so bring light breathable clothing. If you plan to visit the highlands though, bring something a bit warmer as well.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: High factor sun blocks and insect repellent specifically for the tropics (with DEET) is a must.

Miscellaneous: A pair of binoculars is worth as much as gold here - many of the animals and birds you will see will be a bit far away, the binos will help you get a better view.

If you plan to stay in any hostels or very cheap places a sleeping bag liner would not be a bad idea - people sometimes complain of dirty/smelly linen and even bed bugs.
