"Ibera - Wildlife Paradise" Laguna Iberá by SanguiniA
Laguna Iberá Travel Guide: 14 reviews and 17 photos
It is quite a hassle to get to this place - thankfully so, as this means it still has retained that quiet authenthic feeling that is so rare nowadays on the usual beaten track. Certainly the long trip it takes to get there is worthwhile and part of the adventure! Esteros del Ibera has been compared as being a little Pantanal. Having never been to the Pantanal myself yet, I cannot really pass judgement on this - but what I can say is that this is a place that is beautiful and therapeutic - definitely a must for persons looking for relaxation, nature and getting a glimpse into rural life in the Argentinian countryside.
Ibera is a wetland - curiously enough though, if it weren't for the multitude of crocodiles, oversized rodents and exotic birds I would have thought this might be Finland. The best base to explore the area is Colonia Carlos Pellegrini village - which is a quirky attraction in itself. A day trip will just not cut it, especially considering the long travel times on the severely corrugated roads. The wildlife here is spectacular and the ecology is very interesting - deer living on floating islands should suffice to explain how special this place really is.
- Pros:Beautiful, lots of wildlife, tranquil, not many tourists
- Cons:quite a pain to get to
- In a nutshell:Big skies, big water and plenty of wildlife.
