Village perche

Here you can really make out the 'Village perche' phenomenon, which was a response to piratic attacks along the seaboard in the early modern period. And the lovely Provencal summer light and pastel coloured plastering which covers the houses.

This is the 'lower' square, underneath the main road going through the town.

.. the smells of the herbs which you tread on as you go up the stone walkway are unforgettable.
