Plymouth is one of the key historical sites in a state packed with more than its share of such locations: even by European standards, Massachusetts has plenty to offer the history buff!

Plymouth is where the pilgrims came ashore in 1620, where the process of large-scale settlement of the US began. The town is quite small, but every second house seems to have a plaque marking its significance in the early history of the colonial US.

It's got a very picturesque port, with a lovely seafront walk, and more than enough restaurants, in varying price-brackets, to cater to the large numbers of modern-day pilgrims.
