Berlin

by sarahandgareth - last update: Jun 4, 2003

Prenzlauer Berg in March snows!
I lived in Berlin for almost two years between autumn 1999 and summer 2001, and I've been back to visit a couple of times since then, including with Sarah.

Berlin, given its history, is an extremely varied place to visit, with many very distinctive neighbourhoods, whether it be the swankier Charlottenburg, the trendy Prenzlauer Berg or immigrant-rich Kreuzberg. It's also a very spread-out city, in comparison, say, to New York or Paris, with several attractions in the extremes of east or west.

Like many continental European cities, Berlin is pretty hot in the summer and extremely cold in the winter: it's perfectly fine to visit in the winter, but bring a very thick coat. That was one of my very first purchases after my arrival from the milder climate of Dublin!

Excellent tips, I'm a big fan of German movies, have been trying to get a copy of Sonnenallee for a while, must look up Life Is All You Get as well, hadn't heard of it before. Would love to have the opportunity to live in Berlin too like you've done.

Excellent and accurate info! So, no reason for me to build a Berlin page :)
