Zion is one of the national parks with religious references. Inside Zion you'll find names like Court of Patriarchs, Altar of Sacrifice, Angel's Landing, the Pulpit, etc. The only exception is the Temple of Sinawava which was named after the wolf god of the Pauite Indians. My guess is that the native name came long after the park was established. |
Since I don't particularly favor the regious theme, I picked the movie theme for my page title as Zion was the human shelter in the movie "Matrix". In April 2001 I made a trip to the 4-cornor states (Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado). During the trip I zipped through all 5 of Utah's national parks in less than three days (Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches). In Zion I only spent less than half a day. Now I regret not spending enough time here because of the beautiful scenery and interesting hikes that I missed. But I plan to come back. |

Homanded Sat Jan 6, 2007 21:41 UTC You have to go and spend more time in Zion. I've been back 3 times. At least, a good 2 night stay so you can enjoy dawn/dusk. I'm glad it's all by park vehicle now. | buzzz Sun May 1, 2005 17:57 UTC Hey I was in Zion and Bryce in April 2001 too. I think the bird you saw was a wild turkey. I have a pic of one on my Zion page. | Dumpymotel Sat Jan 1, 2005 20:32 UTC Did you know that it takes water 5 years to make its way through weeping rock and only a second to fall on the ground.. | bct341 Sun Nov 14, 2004 16:32 UTC Nice Zion page... have not been there for a while.. hope to see it again soon... |
